Happy Solstice
Last weekend starting Sunday we had our grove Summer Solstice camping.  It didn't turn out perfect for me because I still was not successful in getting my VPAP to work well enough to let me actually sleep.  So, I sat up half the night in the car in a state of exhausted quasi-sleep.  The next day I did get up and accompany the grove to the Tor where many of them met the Seven Sisters for the first time.  A great horned owl was sighted though not by me, alas.  It was perfect weather and not too hot.  The ceremony went well and once again my only regret was that I could not manage to get down to commune with those oaks more often.

At the business meeting of the grove on Monday morning after the celebration, we decided to go further down the river to Great River Bluffs State Park for Lughnasadh.  I think I will have to manage to stop at Frontenac and visit the seven sisters on my way to or from.  I've never been to Great River Bluffs but know that the Winona area is beautiful and love to get down there.  So, I hope that everyone else will also be able to do so.  I'm a bit concerned that some of the grove members are maybe getting excluded if we have camps too far from the cities.  Yet, on the other hand, I love to visit the state parks and patronize them and it is the nearest thing to wilderness and sacred groves we have.

Michelle, one of the prospective visitors who we met at Grove Gather made a good point in saying that urban retreats such as Minnehaha Falls were also very sacred spots.  I've often thought the oak grove there in the picnic area at Minnehaha park would be lovely for Druid rituals, but it is too public and busy for my tastes.  If a group of Native Americans held a ceremony there, it would seem natural, but for Druids to do so seems to me politically tricky and likely to seem weird to the ordinary folk of Minneapolis.  I wish we could find someone to work with as liaison to local native tribes.

I got my Llewellyn readers report off in the e-mail on Friday, so am relieved to have that off my plate,  Saturday I rewarded myself with an utterly liesurely look around the Midwest Bookhunters Fair at the State Fair Grounds.  I bought four books, one of which was a book on owls that I have been wanting for years and it was only $5.  I take that as a bit of magic there!

Hey brother, I was worried there for a while. It appeared your account had been deleted. Glad to see you didn't dump it in a fit of pique. Sorry you won't be coming on Friday, I would be happy to bring the smokes and drinks over from your place. Let's speak later this week about what needs to happen there.
